Dead Fox + Dead Tree
ABOUT

Dead Fox Dead Tree is a multi-instrumentalist duo out of Austin and San Francisco. Their sound ranges from psychedelic, alternative, grungy, to instrumental sound design, sometimes sweet, sometimes sour. Purity is never the goal.
Studio rats, instrument collectors, gearheads by nature; vintage analog is the backbone, new technology is the toolkit, and neither apologizes for the other. Guest musicians drift in and out as needed: a trumpet and strings on one track, a fuzzed-out bass or a howling Moog on the next. Whatever the song wants, it gets.
In 2022, they released their self-titled debut EP, a genre-blurring introduction shaped by pandemic and post-pandemic introspection. Their 2023 full-length, “Fell To Pieces,” widened the lens, sonically more cohesive, drawing on nervous breakdowns, naked commercialism, and a slow-building sense of impending disaster. 2025’s single “Roll Call” kept the momentum going between records.
Now, Dead Fox Dead Tree return with their most unflinching work yet: “The Gas & Matches,” a full-length album that follows one man’s slow-motion collision with himself. “The Same Way” opens the wound — waking up next to someone you no longer recognize. “Like the Drugs” is the pull back toward feeling something, a dalliance that arrives like a siren song, equal parts electric and doomed. “Adhesive” lands alone in a hospital room at the bottom of it all — a sweetly ironic love song to the only thing that stuck around. And “Naturally Born Sociopath” picks through the wreckage, staring in the mirror and asking whether there’s still a person in there, or just a blank shell going through the motions.
Written, produced, and mixed by Dead Fox Dead Tree, “The Gas & Matches” is set for release in 2027 with a run of singles rolling soon. Sit with something a little uncomfortable.
